A year ago seems so far away. As we are approaching the VFW Tournament we were also preparing to say "good bye" as Reed was to return to Wintersburg for the SEYO season. What a difference a year makes. As I still sit on the SEYO Board for WPC I keep a close eye out for our VFW Force team. Here is some information that came out of the SEYO Board meeting on Monday night. There will be a fourth grade boys blue (gold) division this year. So far, OCO and Norwalk have requested to be in blue. Norwalk has split their team to have a tournament team and a SEYO team. SOC has also requested to be in blue but that could change next meeting. Also, OCBC's white division champs 9-1 last year can also be asked to move up to blue but as of right now they are in white. The surprise is that there is a new team from GEO entering our division called the Falcons. We believe this is the FOR Warriors, more info to follow on this. Good news on the gym site this year, with the addition of a new girls gym at Loara HS SEYO will not have to rent out Anaheim HS this year. This is good for us as the Upper Pee Wee Division has always played here and it was terrible. I'm not sure where we will play yet but anywhere else will be better than there. Another Good news item, we have worked out with the IYBL (Irvine Youth Basketball League) to not use the SCCCC on the morning of 10/21 so now we will have the gym at 8:00 a.m. to set up without being rushed. I'm still checking on the tables and chairs. Don't forget practice tomorrow night (Friday 10/6) at Mariners from 6:30-8:30 Please let Jon or I know if you cannot make it. Thanks again, Mark

We were just notified that our last two Saturday's 10/7 and 10/14 will be at Valencia HS from 4:30-6:00 p.m. just like last week in the large gym. We are still practicing on Friday's 10/6 and 10/13 at Mariners from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Both schedules are on the calendar section of our web site. Due to the confirmation of Valencia HS for this Saturday 10/7 we will not be renting the Chinese Cultural Center for a scrimmage against the Warriors as discussed earlier last month. We will try to set up something before the start of SEYO. There is also a chance that we will be making a road trip after the VFW Tournament to Kennedy HS in Granada Hills to learn our half-court and full-court trap as well as our press break for the upcoming season. Coach Kevin Kanemura has learned from the best college coaches and he will evaluate the talent on our team to teach us the best ones that we can practice with for the upcoming tournament season. We want to express a big "thank you" to both Mary and Caroline for taking on the task of coordinating all the non-basketball duties for our upcoming VFW Tournament. I also want to thank everyone for asking what they could do to help out as it will take a total team effort to pull through this on our own. Just a reminder that we will have two practices for the remaining three weekends before the tournament. This weekend it will be Saturday and Sunday and the next two weekends it will be Friday and Saturday. After the VFW Tournament we will start to practice for the upcoming SEYO season. I will be able to update everyone with the teams and schedules after the SEYO Board meeting on Monday night. Practices should be on Saturday with games on Sunday. We have a tentative practice schedule for the weeks before the VFW Tournament. We will have practice on Saturday 9/30 at Valencia HS from 4:30-6:00 p.m. We are in the large gym on the south court which is closest to the door. Our second practice this weekend will be on Sunday 10/1 at Mariners from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The two weeks after that we will be practicing on Friday and Saturday before the tournament.
