Thanks for all the help

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Oct 30, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Hello all,

Hope all is well.  Here are the emails I received from various tournament teams that participated in the VFW tournament.  Thank you again to all who helped out either before, during and after the weekend.  Even though the tournament was a lot of work, it was a very enjoyable experience compared to the 'fireworks' that went on during last year's tournament.  I think we have it down to a science that will work for years to come.

Thanks again.
Jon

Jon...

Thanks for a great
tournament.  The boys enjoyed getting together and playing.  The facility and the tournament ran really well.  The boys were surprised they got a medal, but felt good about it.  Thanks for inviting us to your tournament.

Jon/Mark, thank you also.  All of our parents were quite impress with how smoothly the tournament was run, as well as, the great facilites available for the boys.  I was also impressed with how the Force played and kept their composure in the 2nd half despite being down.  They were just missing a lot of  shots they normally make.  My boys tried hard but couldn't hold back the flood.  Quite frankly, I was surprised that we were up at half.

Your team and organization are top-notch and we will be back!!!!!!

Talk to you later,

Hi Jon and Mark,

THANK YOU  for a fun and well-organized tournament.  The facility was great -- much nicer than Sports Center and less crowded.   Loved all the colorfull posters too!  You should all be commended for a job well done.  Aren' you glad its over!

Thank you for giving our boys an oppurtunity to compete at a higher level than they are used to.  It gave them a boost of confidence to know that they could compete against teams in the gold division.   It was a heart-breaking loss in the last game but they've never been that close to beating Victory before.  (They also are reminded how important free throws are.  :) )

I have contacted my sister who lives in Torrance and knows a couple of the parents from the SB Tigers.  She will return the ball bag to their player.

Oh...and just in case anyone was wondering, our team was collecting the cans/plastic bottles at the gym to raise money to Adopt-a-Family for the holidays.  I know it didn't look good picking through all the trash but we wanted the boys to collect the cans/bottles on their own.

Thanks again and enjoy the break!

Best regards,

Hi Jon and Mark

On behalf of the OCBC Lightning families and boys, we wanted to thank you again for having us in the tournament.  From our vantage point, everything went smoothly.  All the teams and coaches were enthusiastic and supportive.  Nice touch by the way on the posters for each team, the parents thought that was cool.  As for the facilities, I’ll play there anytime!!  Terrific courts, clean facilities, ample parking, and shopping/food right next door.  What’s not to like?

Thanks again to the both of you, your committee, and your families.

Steve

Hi Jon,

On behalf of our team, I'd like to thank you for your organization's hospitality!  The facility we played at was beautiful, and we felt welcomed from the minute we walked up from the parking lot.  Your crew greeted us, gave us our t-shirts and bags, wished us well and thanked us for participating.  Everything ran so smoothly...I'm sure a lot was due to your hard work and presence all weekend!

Thank you for doing such a great job as Commissioner, both before and during this past weekend!  Your communication was always so thorough and timely, and as you know, our team owes you a special thank you for being so patient with us and our situation.  We had some tough losses this weekend, but the good sportsmanship and ref-ing in our division made it a great learning experience and all in good fun!

Thank you again and we look forward to playing again next year!

Hello,

Our Tiger team participated in the tournament this past weekend. I wanted to let you know that my son had a great time.  The facility was a little drive for us as we came from the Monterey Park area, but what a pleasant surprise to see and experience the SC Chinese Cultural Center. There was ample parking and space for the boys to snack after their games.  The facility was immaculate. I really liked the mall that was next door.  It made it very easy to get lunch in between games without the possibly of getting lost.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience to participate in your tournament.

Thank you-
Lori

November Update

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Oct 28, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Our special practice that we had at Kennedy HS went very well. The boys had a lot thrown at them but they all responded and caught on very quickly. Coach Kevin mentioned that the team was very good and were learning defenses that high school players have a hard time with. He was impressed with the overall ability of all 9 players and how they played as a team at this young age. We went over various half court traps, the 1-1-3 defense, a new press break and three different full court traps. We will continue to evaluate the various defenses and will probably hold some special dedicated practices throughout the next few months to see which ones we feel comfortable with as a team. Our first official SEYO practice will be held this upcoming Saturday 11/4/06. We are unsure of the time and location but we will update the website as soon as we find out. The VFW Force family also wants to wish the Garcia family "Good Luck" and a safe trip to their Hula competition this upcoming weekend in Northern California. "GO HULA FORCE" Have a great week !!! Upcoming SEYO Season

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Oct 26, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
As we approach the new SEYO season we are asking for two official "team parents" We will need one to handle the upcoming SEYO season which will run from November through February. The other would be for the tournament season which will run from March through August. It would be okay to have co-team parents for either one, we just need to inform the VFW organization of the SEYO team parent before the second week of November. As team parents you will help coordinate the snack schedule, collect fees, distribute or collect paperwork for the team and work with the coaches to communicate information to the team. Please let Jon or I know as soon as possible if you are interested in helping out with either position. REMEMBER OUR SPECIAL PRACTICE TOMORROW SATURDAY 10/28..... Sunny, Kenny and Troy need to be at Jon's house by 11:00 a.m. Trevor and Shaq need to be at Mark's house by 10:45 a.m. Christian will be in the valley already and we are still coordinating with Brad. Tentative schedule will be practice from 12:00-2:00 p.m., lunch immediately after and return to pick-up locations no later than 4:00 p.m. Be sure to provide a good breakfast for all the boys and to get plenty of rest tonight before practice. We will be running full court and half court trap drills as well as full court press break drills. These are very hard especially for our team, we are learning all of these items about one year ahead of our competition. Let me know if you have any questions, thanks. Mark

October News

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Oct 23, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Another month gone by and we need to pay for our gym rental for October. As we said earlier all of the practices at Valencia HS were paid by the VFW organization. We only needed to pay for the three practices that we had at Mariners for the month. The total was $180 so divided by ten players we all need to write a check to Jon or Wendy for $18. We've also spoken to Jason Wright and he is willing to help out our boys at his gym for some special private clinics during the upcoming holidays. As it gets closer we will let you know what days we are looking at. Please let me or Jon know if you are not planning to be in town for either the Thanksgiving or Christmas breaks that the boys have from school. We also want to give a special thank you to Sammy's sister Jessica who painted a sign for each team that was playing in our tournament this past weekend. We received many compliments about them as well as how all of us made each team feel welcomed all weekend. Jon will be posting all the e-mails that he received from the teams regarding the tournament soon. Thanks again everyone, Mark
