Late homer clips Eagles in opener

WHITE LAKE — Rickey Samuel's three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh lifted Lakeland over Hartland 8-6 on Monday.

Losing pitcher Drew Mixter came on in the seventh and walked two batters before Samuel's shot, his second home run of the day.

 
"I thought we played well, but we didn't make enough plays when we had to," Hartland coach Brian Morrison said. "With (six) walks and (four) errors, we gave them chances, and they capitalized."

 

Lakeland (3-1 overall, 1-0 Kensington Valley Conference) took a 5-1 lead after three innings, but Hartland came back with five runs in the fifth to take the lead.

Zach Cooper pitched the first six innings, walking four and striking out six.

The Eagles (0-1) play at Linden today.

Spring Break Practices

Today is our last day of practice.  We will resume practicing on 4/11 at the Village Field at 1:00 PM.   4/12 and 4/13 will also be at the Village at 1:00 pm.  All players not out of town are expected to be at practice.
