2014 PLAYOFFS -

Hawkeye, 3 vs. Post #220, 2 (15-8); After a few mistakes in the beginning of the first playoff game, Post #220 found themselves chasing two runs into the late innings, until Austin Salkind (Old Rochester) belted a two-run home run over the left field fence to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning. In their last at bat, Hawkeye led off w/ a walk and then moved the runner over on a failed pick-off attempt. Post #220, 3 vs. Hawkeye, 2 (17-8); After stranding five base runners in the first two innings and trailing by two runs early, it took a solo home run from Ryan Plunkett (Old Rochester) in the top of the fourth inning to put Post #220 on the board. From there, Tyler Ferdinand (Wareham/Nichols College) led off the top of the fifth inning w/ a base hit and Sam Bacchiocchi's (Tabor) double off the left/center field wall, put runners on second and third. Now, w/ a full count on him, Luke Mattar (Old Rochester) plated Ferdinand on a base hit to the right side and Brett Labonte (Wareham) put the ball in play w/ a fielder's choice RBI. Bacchiocchi tossed six strong innings and allowed only one earned run to pick up the win; only after handing the ball over to Plunkett in the bottom half of the seventh inning w/ runners on first and second and nobody out. Barnstable, 5 vs. Post #220, 0 (17-9); Barnstable moves on to play Kingston (who eliminated Brockton) in the District 10 finals to see who enters the MA American Legion Baseball State Tournament by eliminating Wareham Post #220 Baseball by a score of 5-0.
