 On Saturday, February 9, 2019, the Marist Varsiy Men traveled to Willie May Fieldhouse at Evanston High School. The fieldhouse was dedicated in 2018 to 1960 Olympic Silver Medalist and former Evanston Head Coach Willie May. The late Wille May coached Track and Field at Evanston for 45 years, and he won five IHSA State trophies, including the State Championship in 1979. Marist Head Coach Jon Gordon had known Willie May since he competed in high school Track, and raced in the same conference with among others, State Champion and future Evanston Olympian Robert Gary (1990). In 2018, Hall of Fame Evanston Head Coach Don Michelin invited Gordon and the Marist RedHawks to the Evanston Indoor Classic. In 2019, the RedHawks returned to Evanston for the second consecutive year.

 The meet was an outstanding experience for New Trier, Schaumburg, Marist, Waukegan, and host Evanston Township High School. 

 Individual events and relays were scored on the following point scale: 10-8-6-4-2-1. 

 Congratulations to Evanston Head Coach Don Michelin and the Wildkits on winning the meet. New Trier finished in second place in the Varsity division with 109 points. Schaumburg finished in third place with 76 points. Marist finished in fourth place with 75 points. Waukegan finished in fifth place with 22 points.

 In the Varsity Triple Jump, Marist Senior Tom Johnson finished in fourth place with a triple jump of 35'6.

 In the Varsity 3200m run, Marist scored 18 points with Senior Lucas Pennix finishing in second place, Junior Luke Hortsman finishing in third place, and Junior Peter Derdzinski finishing in fourth place! 

 In the Varsity 55m dash, Marist Sophomore Jovan Marsh finished in THIRD place with an outstanding time of 6.75. Marist Junior Keyon Turner tied for fourth place with an outstanding time of 6.82. Marist Junior Antoine Davis finished in sixth place to complete the scoring with an outstanding time of 6.92. The RedHawks scored 10 points in the Varsity 55m dash! 

 In the Varsity 600m run, Marist Junior Luke Hortsman finished in THIRD place. Marist Junior Peter Derdzinski finished in sixth place to complete the scoring.

 In the Varsity 55m low hurdles, Marist Senior Tom Johnson finished in fourth place with an outstanding time of 9.06.

 Marist had many impressive SECOND place performances in the Varsity division, including Lucas Pennix (3200m run), Amari Watkins, Keyon Turner, Antoine Davis, Tom Johnson (4x200m Relay), Thomas Leonard (1600m run), Jovan Marsh (300m dash), and Eric Teverbaugh, Amari Watkins, Antoine Davis, Lucas Pennix (Indoor Medley Relay).

The night before the Evanston Township Track and Field Invitational, the Marist RedHawks will be hosting a Pasta Party in Marist classroom 130. Prior to the Pasta Party, the TEAM will meet in the RedHawk Theatre at 4 pm to hear a special guest speaker.

Former NCAA Division I All-American and 4:04 miler Rick Wemple will be guest speaker at the Pasta Party. Rick Wemple attended Yale University where he won 6 Ivy League Titles in Track and earned Division I (One) All-American honors in Cross Country.

Wemple is a mental performance coach. His credentials include a bachelor of science in biology from Yale and a master’s in Exercise Science from Ohio State University. In addition, Rick is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, including a specialization in Behavior Change. He will be speaking about how the messages we give ourselves significantly influence our thoughts and physical state, and ultimately our decisions, actions and athletic performance.

  Aurelio's Catering will provide the TEAM with a very healthy Team Dinner. The dinner will feature Garden Salad, Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Pasta with Butter, Gluten free pizza, and bottled water.

 A $50.00 annual fee will be collected from each member of the Marist Track and Field Team to help fund catering expenses for Pasta Partys throughout the 2019 Track and Field Season. Please make checks payable to "Marist High School". As of February 8, 2019, the following students have paid their annual Pasta Party fee (Bugos, Coccaro, Coy, Ferguson, Geary, Kavanaugh, Kerlin, Leonard, McNamara, Wagner, Vallie). Thanks.

 The Team Pasta Dinners are great morale booster, and a great way for athletes to prepare for upcoming Track and Field meets.

 On Saturday, February 2, 2019, the Marist RedHawks Track & Field TEAM traveled to Rockford Auburn High School in Rockford, Illinois for the Rockford Knights Jerry Lowe Invitational! 

 The meet featured 20 Teams, incuding Aurora Metea Valey, Burbank St. Laurence, Chicago Marist, Chicago Walter Payton Prep, Deerfield, Elgin, Elgin Harvest Christian Academy, Grayslake Central, Hampshire, Hoffman Estates, Machesney Park Harlem, Rockford Christian, Rockford East, Rockford Luthern, Rockford Jefferson, South Eligin, Wheaton Warrenville South, Winnebago, and host Rockford Auburn.

 There was 60 athletes from 20 schools in every event. 

 Individuals events and relays were scored on the following point scale: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. 

 Chicago Marist open the 2019 Indoor Track and Field season with an impressive 12 victories at the Jerry Lowe invitational, including victories over: 9. Winnebago (27 points), 10. Hampshire (25 points), 11. South Elgin (20 points), 12. Rockford Auburn (19 points), 13. Harlem (13.50), 14. Rich South (8 points), 15. Chicago Walter Payton Prep (6 points), 16. Rockford East (5 points), 17. Jefferson (4 points), 18. Elgin (3 points), 19. Rockford Luthern (1 points), and 20. Harvest Christian Academy (0 points).

 From 2018 to 2019, the RedHawks improved by four places in the Team Standings.

 Marist opened the indoor track season with an invitational Champion, and three Medalists.

 Marist Junior Brian Ferguson WON the 400m dash with a season best time of 52.97. In his first Track and Field meet of the season, Brian Ferguson came within 0.75 of a second of his career best INDOOR 400m Dash time (52.22, 2018 Illinois Prep Top Times). Brian Ferguson was awarded a gold MEDAL for winning the 400m Dash at the Jerry Lowe Invitational. Ferguson also long jumped 18'7.

 Marist Sophomore Jovan Marsh finished SECOND in the 60m dash with a personal best time of 7.19. Jovan Marsh was awarded a silver MEDAL for finishing in second place in the 60m Dash. Jovan Marsh also scored for the RedHawks in the 200m dash by finishing in fifth place with an outstanding time of 24.23. 

 Marist Junior Thomas Leonard finished SECOND in the 3200m run with a career best INDOOR 3200m time of 10:01.90. Thomas Leonard dropped 23.04 seconds (10:24.94) from the 2018 Jerry Lowe Invitational. Thomas Leonard was awarded a silver MEDAL for finishing in second place in the 3200m run. Thomas Leonard also anchored the RedHawks 4x400m Relay with a personal best 400m split (58.94) to a 9th place finish with a 3:54.99.

 The RedHawks also scored valuable points in the 4x800m Relay and 4x200m Relay. 

 Marist Junior Caleb Davis (2:13.13), Freshman Brendan Geary (2:29.00), Senior Alexis Arreola (2:23.87), and Senior Lucas Pennix (2:24.40) finished in seventh place in the 4x800m Relay with an official time of 9:30.93. The RedHawks dropped 40.91 seconds (10:11.84) in the 4x800m Relay from the 2018 Jerry Lowe Invitational, and came within 22 seconds of Wheaton Warrenville South (9:08.82). 

 Marist Sophomore Jovan Marsh (22.96), Keyon Turner (24.67), Antoine Davis (24.72), and Kivonte Houston (25.40) finished second in their heat, and in fourth place overall in the 4x200m Relay with an official time of 1:38.33. The RedHawks dropped 6.04 seconds (1:44.37) in the 4x200m Relay from the 2018 Jerry Lowe Invitational.

 The athletes listed below earned a Varsity letter in Track and Field by scoring a Varsity point at the Jerry Lowe Invitational.

 In the 4x800m Relay, Marist Junior Caleb Davis ran the first 400m in 64.00 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 69.13 for a 2:13.13 800m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Brendan Geary. Marist Freshman Brendan Geary ran the first 400m in 68.00 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 81.00 seconds for a 2:29.00 800m split, and made a perfect exchange to Senior Alexis Arreola. Marist Senior Alexis Arreola ran the first 400m in 64.00 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 79.87 seconds for a 2:23.87 800m split, and made a nice exchange to Senior Lucas Pennix. Marist Senior Lucas Pennix ran the first 400m in 66.00 seconds, and then ran the final 400m in 78.40 seconds for a 2:24.40 800m split, to finish in 7th place out of 20 high schools with an official time of 9:30.93. The RedHawks dropped 40.91 seconds (10:11.84) in the 4x800m Relay from the 2018 Rockford Auburn Jerry Lowe Invitational.
