 On Sunday, February 24, 2019, the Marist VARSITY Track and Field TEAM traveled to Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois for the 2018 I.C.O.P.S. Track and Field Invitational.

 Athletes from 24 Illinois Catholic High Schools gathered at Lewis University for Mass in the Fieldhouse on Sunday morning prior to the commencemnt of the Track and Field Invitational.

 The Marist RedHawks had a BIG day, scoring 45.5 points, and posted victories over: Benet Academy (39.5 points, defending ESCC Champions), Providence (38 points, finished second at Lincoln Way East Indoor Classic), Niles Notre Dame (22 points, ESCC Opponent), Aurora Central Catholic (22 points), St. Viator (19 points, ESCC Opponent), Mundelein Carmel (16.5 points), St. Patrick (10 points, ESCC Opponent), Mt. Carmel (9 points), Rochelle Zell (8 points), Elmhurst IC Catholic (6 points), Fenwick (5 points), DePaul College Prep (0 points), Holy Trinity (0 points), St. Joseph (0 points), Marian Catholic (0 points), St.Rita (0 points), and Joliet Catholic Academy (0 points).

 The Marist RedHawks had a record of 17-6 on the day.

 The point scale for individual events and relays was 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. 

 In the 3200m run, Marist Captain Thomas Leonard finished in fourth place to earn a MEDAL with an Indoor personal best time of 9:55.12

 In the 55m dash Prelims, there was 48 sprinters from 24 high schools, and only the top 8 performances advanced to the Finals. Marist Sophomore Jovan Marsh QUALIFIED for the finals with the fastest time in the prelims with an outstanding time of 6.65. Marist Freshman Tucker Miller QUALIFIED for the finals with the fourth fastest time in the prelims with an outstanding time of 6.83. Marsh and Miller also finished 1-2 in heat one of the Prelims.

 In the 55m dash Finals, Marist Sophomore Jovan Marsh finished in SECOND place with an official time of 6.66. Marist Freshman Tucker Miller finished in SIXTH place with an official time of 6.89.

 In the 800m run, Marist Sophomore Kevin Bugos won his heat, and finished in SIXTH place with an outstanding time of 2:14.90

 In the 400m dash, Marist Captain Brian Ferguson won it with an indoor personal best time of 51.60. Brian Ferguson was awarded a MEDAL for winning the 400m dash.

 In the 4x200m Relay, Marist earned MEDALS by placing in FIFTH place out of 24 high schools. Marist Freshman Tucker Miller, Freshman Michael Coy, Junior Antoine Davis, and Junior Kivonte Houston all ran outstanding for the RedHawks. 

 In the 1600m run, Marist Captain Thomas Leonard finished fourth in his heat, and fifth overall with an outstanding time of 4:41.17. Thomas Leonard was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in fifth place overall.The bench mark for elite high school milers is the five minute barrier. Marist Freshman Andrew Kerlin BROKE the FIVE MINUTE BARRIER with a personal best time of 4:56.32

 In the 200m dash, Marist Sophomore Jovan Marsh finished in FOURTH place with an outstanding time of 23.67

 In the High Jump, Marist Sophomore Jamari Grant finished in SEVENTH place with a personal best jump of 5'4. Marist Sophomore Carter Auer tied for EIGHTH place with an athlete from Benet Academy with a leap of 5'4.

 In the Triple Jump, Marist Sophomore Jamari Grant finished in EIGHTH place to complete the scoring with an outstanding Triple Jump of 36'9.

PASTA PARTY, Friday, February 22, 2019, 4 pm

 The Friday before the ICOPS Track and Field Invitational at Lewis University, the Marist RedHawks will be hosting a Pasta Party in the Cafeteria at 4 pm.

 The bus will leave for Lewis University at 7:15 am on Sunday.

 Aurelio's Catering will provide the TEAM on Friday with a very healthy Team Dinner. The dinner will feature Garden Salad, Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Pasta with Butter, Gluten free pizza, and bottled water.

 The Team Pasta Dinners are great morale booster, and a great way for athletes to prepare for upcoming Track and Field meets.
