News and Announcements

SURFERS PARADISE, AUSTRALIA – There was some nervous excitment by many of the athletes waiting for the last minute decision to make the event a non-wetsuit race. Without wetsuits the race is 2.5k Run-1k Swim-2.5k Run. If wetsuits had been legal the event would have been run as a 1k Swim followed by a 5k Run. The water temp reading an hour before the first wave was 22.1c  with a limit of below 22 for wetsuits to be legal.

The race was run in four waves set off 1 hour apart. Wave one was the Pro males and females, Under 23 Elites, and Junior Elites. Wave 2 was men under 40. Wave 3 was men 40+ and wave four was all females. The waves were quite large as it was the largest field for a World Championship Aquathlon by a long way! The addition of Sprint Distance athletes to Worlds added a lot of participants to the Aquathlon as well.

There were 372 Male Amateur finishers and 206 female finishers.

REDONDO BEACH TRI 2009 HIGHLIGHTS

Posted by Michael Collins at Jun 13, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
REDONDO BEACH, CA - There were least 7 Friends of MSOC & Nova Masters participants in this "swim heavy" sprint triathlon. Kerry Deputy took 1st place in the 45-49 and won the Masters Division (40+). Big Mike McNeill dominated the Clydsdale division and had a great race where everything "fell into place". Stewart Mimms learned some valuable lessons for the next big race, leaving his CHIP in transition after stripping out of his wet suit; he was still able to pull off an AG win.
