DEA II HAS A ROUGH OPENER FOR FALL OF 2011

The same as the last two seasons, we start the season opener with a 4-1 loss. Last year it took half the season to put things together,  this time that obviously won't be acceptable.
We opened the game reasonably well.  For the first 20 minutes or so we held the ball in their end more than ours and generally played a decent game, but never were able to generate any real scoring opportunities.   They scored on a good fast run by one man when the ball made it through our line and he made anice shot. Second goal was not so good.  One man down in the corner turned the ball in and dribbled along the end line, beating two defenders and then flipping it in against the goalie.
The second half started out much better.  We thoroughly dominated the first 10 minutes with a lot of opportunities, but again very few actual tests for their keeper. Then we gave up two penalty kicks which resulted in one goal.  Something we can ill afford to keep doing if we want to win games this season.  DEA had one goal to end the game and that was a fine example of what we should be doing. The defense fed the ball to John V who was quickly swarmed by three players.  Dave came back to help and because John had his head up and was looking around the field he saw that and fed the ball forward.  Dave turned and took a few dribbles, drawing the defenders in to the center, then sent it through to Jeff G. on the right wing.  Jeff started in towards the goal, again drawing the defense, then sent it across the front to Jimmy who tapped it in.  That's what should be happening.  The ball went defense to mid who was close enough for a quick pass, to mid further up the field, out to the wing, cross to the center and in. The defense was reacting all the way and always a step behind.
Not a good start, but while they played much better, they were not a much better team.  They are a team we can and should beat, we just need to get our heads back in the game.

DEA Crashes and Burns in Melrose 4-0

Posted by Dale Dubois at Jun 6, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
OUCH.......

Once again DEA can not hold on to the lead in the final minutes of the game.  This time it was Windham.  DEA was holding onto a 1-0 lead heading into the final 8 minutes when they gave up 2 goals.  A very disappointing 2-1 loss.   DEA has been in every game this season and all the losses were by 1 goal.   Any one of the games could have been a win...  They are searching for the difference maker with in themselves......

We will see what they come up with this Sunday as they travel to take on the Melrose Good Guys down South.

GM

Jeff Guilds scored about 10 minutes into the game a 1 v 1 on the goalie and he popped one over his head.  We played the rest of the game until 8 minutes left with the 1 – 0 lead.Holger made several good saves to keep our lead that long, but we couldn’t hold out and they scored on a rebound that several people missed until finally they put it away. With under a 1 minutes left they got the go ahead goal as the ball took a funny hop past a defender who was in the right spot to stop it, but it went right to their awaiting striker who finished with a great shot to the corner. We have just not gotten any breaks this season.  All games have been close, within a goal, and we could have won……..              Jim

Playing on a field only slightly larger than a tennis court called for ball control
and discipline.  The team brought it and we controlled the start of the game,
with several strong opportunities, finally ending with a through ball from
Dave Partridge to Bassem who hammered it off the crossbar and down into
the goal.  DEA continued to dominate the half and converted again when
German made a nice signal showing where he was going and then an excellent
flick on the corner served him by Dave, popping it past the keeper and a defender.

Once again we started the second half slow and out of sync, but had it back
together within ten minutes.  Strong keeping by Holger and a disciplined defense
with good play calling by Dave "get your heads up midfield" Crespo kept Andover
away from the goal and a nice offside trap negated their only solid play.  Only
excellent play by the Andover keeper kept it from being a 4 or 5 goal rout.  If
we'd played this way in the first half, any of those one goal losses could have
gone to us and there's not a team in the division we can't beat.

Go Green!

From the Captain:

Can we turn the season around?????Starting the back half of the season DEA wins against a struggling North Reading Cobra team who showed up with 9 players to start and only added another by the half.  After losing to Nashua 2-1 with only 10 DEA players, it was our turn to have numbers.  We clearly dominated play in the first half and quickly got goals from Dave Partridge who scored a quick one, and then about 10 minutes later shot another past the Cobra keeper who was feeling high pressure from the boys in green.  Jim McCall placed the 3rd goal short side to put DEA up 3 – 0 at the half.  Playing at about the same level as their opponents in the second half, we stopped working hard and allowed some opportunities for N. Reading.  They managed to pick up a goal with some lose defensive play as DEA was unable to clear the ball.  Not more than 5 minutes later as Holger came out to the 18 and tried to clear long, only to find a North Reading midfielder who quickly popped a ball over his head into the open net.  With 12 minutes left this brought back memories of an earlier game this season.  DEA then hunkered down and put the nail in the coffin as Mohamad put the 4th goal in as the Cobra keeper could not manage to hold on to the ball. 4 -2 DEA
