Flag Football Program Information for 2013

Posted by James Flicker at Jul 22, 2012 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

BACKGROUND:  The BYC Flag Football program is a program based on introducing boys and girls to the game of football in a fun atmosphere / environment.  No football experience is required to play or coach.

TRAVEL: NO TRAVEL THIS YEAR!  All games will be at BYC (Intramural League style).  Weekly intramural games will be Friday evening, Saturday morning, or Sunday morning.  Our goal is to have no games at 8 am this season!!!  This is a goal and not a guarantee.

UNIFORMS: Each Player will receive a football jersey that they will keep at the end of the season. The league Sign-Up Fee will include the Team Uniform.

TEAMS:  Team sizes will be kept to a minimum to increase playing time.  The goal is to field 4-6 teams for the intramural league but this will depend on the number of players that register.  Goal is to keep the size of the teams between 14 and 17 players to maximize playing time and learning.

PRACTICE:

-  8/19 thru 8/22:   Practice this first week will be Monday (8/19) thru Thursday (8/22) from 6pm until approximately 7:15pm.  All of the players will practice together in a “clinic” style practice that first week.  This clinic / station style of practice maximizes the learning for the players and allows the coaches to get to know the kids

-  The coaches will meet after the practice on Thursday, 8/22 to discuss the player selections for their teams.  The head coach of each team will be contacting players/parents via email introducing them and making players/parents aware of their team’s practice days and times.

-   For all practices beginning the first week (8/19 thru 8/22) at Gillespie Park, all children should be sent with the following:

o    Mouthpiece

o    Water Bottle

o    Piece of tape (masking or athletic) with their last name on the back of their shirt

o    Rubber cleats (baseball cleats will work)

o    As of Monday (8/26) the practice day and times will be at the coach’s discretion.  The expectation is that practice will be approximately 60 minutes for 1-2 nights per week during the season / school year.

TEAM PREFERENCE:   BYC will do our very best to honor every parent request  but we will need to keep the number of players per team level as well as an equal abilities on each team.  All of the players will practice together in a “clinic” style practice the first week.  The coaches will meet after the practice on Thursday, 8/22 to discuss the player selections for their teams

SCHEDULE:  This year there will not be any Flag Games over the Labor Day Weekend!   Our first game will be the weekend of 9/6 and our Last Game is the weekend of October 19th and 20th.  Since we will not travel and will not play Bert Bell opponents, we will have intramural play-offs and a "Bulldog Bowl" for the two top teams.  More information will follow concerning events such as Homecoming and the League Championships.

TEAM PARENT:  Every team will have a team parent that will be responsible for organizing parent activities such as team snack after games, snack bar coverage, homecoming activities, etc.  We are also going to have a team parent coordinator that will help the team mom or dad.  This will be done after the teams are selected.

Who to contact with questions or concerns:   Bill Potts (Flag Coordinator) at william.j.potts@usa.dupont.com or Steve Theisen (BYC Football Commissioner) at bycfootball@comcast.net

RULES OF FLAG FOOTBALL:  Rules and regulations regarding flag football as it pertains to the Bert Bell Football Program will be emailed to every parent.  I previously emailed a copy of the rules to all of the coaches.
