BETTER DISPLAY AGAINST LOCHEE UTD IN CUP

Posted by Roy Gill at Sep 5, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

EAST OF SCOTLAND CUP 1ST ROUND

SAT SEPT 5TH 2015

Montrose Roselea 1-2 Lochee United

Roselea faced Lochee for the second time this season as they met in the  DJ Laing East Of Scotland Cup, and although the latter team were again victorious, the home team will feel they have a lot of positives to take from the game as they were beaten by a single goal.

The Broomfield Park outfit set up with a new formation as to previous games this season as they aimed to give more protection to the defence from midfield by playing three centre midfielders and brought they're wingers in narrower as to try support Watson up top as much as they could.

Ball retention has been recognised as a problem are for the team and this system improved that aspect tenfold.

Roselea created the first chance after just three minutes. Campbell playing at full back whipped in a great ball to find Greig but as he tried to control with his chest an away defender recovered to break up the attack.

It was the same move just ten minutes later when Campbell again found Greig. This time the wingers control was exceptional. He created space for himself to shoot but his effort was well closed down by a Lochee defender.

Roselea were well on top by now and a Sturrock free kick found Whyte, but he could only direct his header towards the keeper.

Lochee then hit the 'Lea with a crucial blow. McCOMISKIE picked up the ball just inside the box. He dummied a shot and laid the ball on to his other foot then placed the strike with the outside of his boot into the far corner giving McLeod no chance.

Roselea tried to hit back on 35 minutes as Collier played a one-two with Watson but then dragged his shot wide of the post.

The home team had one more chance just before half time when a corner fell on the edge of the area to Sturrock but his shot was well charged down by the resolute Lochee defence.

Half time- Montrose Roselea 0 Lochee Utd 1

Lochee doubled their lead straight into the second half. Birse found DEASLEY who shot into the corner from the edge of the box.

Lochee had a great chance to end the tie just a minute later when a cross found Birse at the back post but he sailed his shot well over.

S.Smith replaced Mowatt after 58 minutes.

Roselea had the ball in the back of the net after an hour. Collier found Watson who buried his shot but the referee blew for offside. It was the away teams turn to have a goal for offside disallowed just a minute later as Beedie found McComiskie who lobbed McLeod but the whistle blew as it left his boot. Both teams had little complaint about each decision.

Taylor and M.Smith replaced Cruickshank and Greig with a quarter of the tie left.

The away team were reduced to ten men when Cochrane was shown a red card for a kick on Anderson.

Rae bravely blocked an effort from Deasley to ensure Roselea remained in the match with 15 to go.

Collier had a golden opportunity to get a goal back for Roselea when a Sturrock cross found him at the back post and he did everything right heading it down but keeper Gray made himself big to stop the effort.

The home team did get the goal they deserved with 5 minutes left. A great swerving ball from Sturrock into the danger area was met by WATSON sliding in and his effort was poked past the keeper.

Roselea had a chance right at the death to send the match into penalties when S.Smith delivered a fantastic cross into the box but it was inches too high for Collier who had made a great run into the area.

Roselea will feel disheartened to be knocked out of the cup but will also be encouraged by the improvement in the level of the performance. They face Falkirk Juniors next week as they are back in league action and will feel if they can replicate things with perhaps the slightest of modifications, they will begin to pick up some much needed points in the league.

ROSELEA SINK TO OAKLEY GOAL

OAKLEY UTD v MONTROSE ROSELEA

McBOOKIE.COM EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

SAT AUGUST 29th 2015

Roselea suffered a third defeat in four in a frustrating game for both sides.

Each team set up with different formations as the home team had three centre midfielders and Roselea opted to try utilise their wide numerical advantage.

It was Oakley who created the first chance when left wing back Allan found right wing back Thomson at the back post but his header was cleared by Sturrock.

It didn't take long for Roselea to create their first chance when Collier linked well with Watson but home keeper Steele pulled off a great save to keep it goalless.

Findlater whipped in a testing cross to Watson after 15 minutes but the strikers header was wide of the post.

The game was very stop-start after a promising opening for both teams as the referee frustrated both sides with some debatable decisions.

Roselea felt they should have had a penalty after half an hour when Collier was first to a loose ball and poked the ball past the away keeper who proceded to floor Collier. The referee blew for a foul by Collier, much to the annoyance of the traveling support.

Allan of Oakley delivered a great corner which appeared to be heading directly into the net before Whyte brilliantly headed away under pressure.

Oakley had another corner on 33 minutes but Allan's delivery was headed over by Mcdonough.

Roselea had their manager sent off after 34 minutes. Collier picked up a loose ball and shot towards goal. Steele made a great fingertip save onto the crossbar and as the ball went out the referee awarded a goal kick. Simpson was sent away from the dugout for his protests.

On the stroke of half time it was Oakley's turn to have their appeals rejected by the official as Mcdonough looked to be taken down illegally in the box but the referee booked the home striker for simulation.

Half time: Oakley Utd 0 Montrose Roselea 0

Oakley took the lead shortly after the interval under controversial circumstances. Murray appeared to be well offside but the referee waved play on. Despite Roselea managing to regain the ball back, Rushford battled well to win the ball on the right hand side and then crossed for McDONOUGH to stroke into the net.

Roselea were forced into making two subs as the injured Sturrock and Taylor were replaced by Greig and Mowatt.

Roselea could have found themselves well out the match were it not for a couple of great saves from McLeod in goals. First he was on hand to deny McDonough and tip his strike onto the bar, then he pulled off a superb reaction save from a strike by the same player as he hit a powerful effort from 15 yards out.

Roselea reshuffled as time ran out and did create a half chance for Greig at the back post in the last minute but his shot flew wide.

Full time: Oakley Utd 1 Montrose Roselea 0

A frustrating day for Roselea who will feel on another day decisions could have gone their way. Having said that though the performance was well off what they are capable of. With midweek fixtures and friendlies over the management team will be looking forward to finally having the chance at training this week to put their own stamp on things for next weeks game against Lochee United at home.

10 MAN LEA FIGHT FOR POINT

Posted by Roy Gill at Aug 22, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Montrose Roselea v Bathgate Thistle

McBookie.com East Premier League

Sat August 22nd 2015

Roselea picked up what appeared to be an unlikely point at one stage after battling from a goal and a man down.

Roselea welcomed back Collier, Tringham, Watson and Thomson into the starting line up in what was a more experienced outfit compared to the midweek defeat against Lochee Utd.

Bathgate had the first chance of the match in the 5th minute when Harris found Jack, but the strikers toe-poked effort was well saved by McLeod.

The away team were happy to go long from the back and it was with this they scored their only goal of the match after 11 minutes on the clock. A long ball found Jaconelli. The striker was tumbled to the ground by a Roselea defender and the referee pointed to the spot. JACONELLI brushed himself down to take the spot kick himself and casual slotted the ball home as McLeod dived the opposite way.

Jaconelli and Jack were linking up well for the away team and the former found the latter who's effort from 15 yards out was comfortably saved by McLeod.

Roselea had their first real chance after 33 minutes. Anderson delivered a dangerous ball from a free kick into the area but Collier was just unable to get anything on it as the ball bounced into the greatful McQuillan's hands.

Bathgate were pushing to extend their lead and were left kicking themselves when Nicoll was unable to head goalwords from a corner.

With 5 minutes left before half time Roselea were very unfortunate not to equalise. Cruickshank floated in a great corner and the ball eventually landed to Tringham following a bit of pinball football. The winger laid it off to Watson but his goal bound effort was blocked bravely by away defender Brady on the line.

Just on the stroke of half time Watson found strike partner Collier but his header was easily saved by the Bathgate shotstopper.

Half Time- Montrose Roselea 0 Bathgate Thistle 1

Roselea were fortunate to not find themselves two down in the first minute of the second half as Jack had a first time effort come crashing back off the crossbar.

Roselea had a great opportunity after an hour. Watson pulled wide to collect the ball then sent in a deep cross to Collier but his header was wide of the target.

Roselea were then dealt a cruel blow as they were reduced to ten men after 62 minutes. Jaconelli beat the offside trap and as he bared down on goal, Thomson brought him down to prevent a great opportunity to score as he gave the referee no choice but to flash the red card. Jaconelli took the free kick but McLeod was on hand to save the strike.

Campbell and Greig replaced Cruickshank and Taylor with 18 minutes to go as Collier was brought back into defence following the red card.

Roselea equalised after 73 minutes when a Findlater cross was bravely met by WATSON who headed home into the empty net as keeper McQuillan knocked into him.

This gave the home team a huge lift and were arguably the better team in the closing stages despite being a man down. Watson was unlucky not to get his second when he beat the offside trap well but was thwarted by a covering defender just as he looked to strike on goal.

Watson was visibly shattered but was still causing all sorts of problems for the Bathgate defence as he chased down a ball and chipped the keeper but his effort landed just wide of the post.

Roselea made a final change with M.Smith replacing the injured McDowell.

Bathgate did have one more chance in the last minute but Jaconelli's low shot was well kept out by McLeod in the sticks.

Full Time Montrose Roselea 1 Bathgate Thistle 1

Truth be told this was not Roselea's finest performance although there were some stand out performers. Credit must go to the players though for showing a terrific attitude in the second half in the face of adversity to secure a point.

Montrose Roselea- 1.McLeod 2.Findlater 3.Taylor 4.White 5.Thomson 6.Anderson 7.Tringham 8.McDowell 9.Watson 10.Collier 11.Cruickshank 12.Bailey 14.Campbell 15.Great 16.S.Smith 17.M.Smith

Roselea's next fixture comes on Tuesday night at Broomfield Park Against Montrose F.C at 7:15pm.

The fixture is Ross McLeod's testimonial match to mark his eleventh season with the club. The popular keeper has very kindly agreed to let the club make a tribute at the match to former player Stephen Give who tragically passed away following a short battle with cancer. There will be a collection on the night for Cancer Research in what is hoped will have people digging deep for such a great cause.

Admission will be 4 pounds for Adults and 2 pounds for Concessions.

Roselea travelled Thomson Park Lochee for their 4th League game of the season. With Grant Mowatt on holiday, Steven Smith working, James Collier, Calum Rae and Ross Mitchell, Jack Dalgarno all injured things suddenly went from bad to worse in the warm up when Calum Watson and Liam Campbell pulled up 15 minutes before ko.

Roselea: McLeod, Findlater, Taylor, Whyte, Sturrock, smith, Anderson McDowell, Cruickshank, Greig & Bailey. Subs: Thomson, Trialist

After a comfortable start on the ball when Roselea looked composed on the ball it was a loss of possession that led to the first goal in 7 minutes, Hagan picked the ball up in midfield and rode his luck before McLeod saved well but BLACKWOOD followed up to score.

Couple of chances for Lochee Utd just before the end of the first half when Mcleod made a great save with his feet from Mccomiskie then a couple of minutes later Hagan blasted over from close range and should have made it 2-0.

Half time Lochee Utd 1 Montrose Roselea 0

It was 2-0 Lochee Utd 8 mins into second half when KADELA had a sweet strike from edge of the box when Roselea failed to clear a corner kick.

Roselea battled away without creating any chances as Lochee looked to increase their lead and they did so after missing a host of chances.

In 81 minutes MARTIN scored a nice curler from edge of the box to seal the points.

THREE POINTS TAKEN AGAINST VIOLET

Posted by Roy Gill at Aug 16, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Montrose Roselea 3-0 Dundee Violet

Roselea grabbed their first victory of the season with a comprehensive result against a good Dundee outfit.

On 25 minutes Calum Watson played a superb acute flighted through ball into GRANT MOWATT who bent his run well to beat the offside trap and loop his shot over the keeper and into the roof of the net.

It was much the same for the deadly duo for the second goal as Watson again was provider squaring to MOWATT who turned brilliantly and poked his shot in off the far post.

Roselea thought they had a good case for a penalty just after half time when a Violet defender looked to have handballed but the referee waved play on.

'Lea keeper McLeod spread himself brilliantly to block a certain goal after an hour.

The away team were reduced to ten men for a dangerous tackle with 15 minutes to go.

After letting a 2 goal lead slip in the previous game Roselea quickly learnt their lesson and kept things tight and looked solid throughout.

There was time for a third when Rae played in Cruikshank who took a couple of touchstones lure out the keeper before stabbing the ball underneath him and into the empty net.

A great performance from the home team to ensure their unbeaten start to the season remained
