Falcons 10 game Win Streak Snapped

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 19, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Falcons lost a tough 4-3 decision at home to the Warriors of Westminster Christian Thursday night.

The Falcons gave sophomore Jeremy Cook his 1st start of the season. Cook stepped up to give a solid 4 inning performance and left the game with the score tied at 1-1. Dakota Doyle came in to the game in the 5th inning and struck out the 1st two hitters he faced. In the 6th inning with 2 outs and men on 1st and 2nd the 9 hole hitter for the Warriors hit a lazy chopper to 1st base which was mishandled by the 1st baseman and all runners were safe. The very next hitter drilled a triple into the right center gap to clear the bases and make the score 4-1. The Falcons fought back in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs of their own to close the gap to 4-3. But that is as close as they got as they could not get anything going in the bottom of the 7th.

Dakota Doyle took the tough loss giving up 5 hits, no earned runs with 4 strikeouts.

The Falcons (10-3, 6-0) will take to the road to play Coral Gables on Saturday, March 21st at 4:30 pm at Coral Gables in the opening round of the HSBN Spring Break Tournament.

Fortuno Shuts Out Killian

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 14, 2015 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Falcons took on the Killian Cougars at NSU with their ace, Gentry Fortuno, on the hill and came away with a 2-0 win to bring their win streak to 9.

There wasn't much offense on the night as the Falcons were only able to get 3 hits on the evening which was only one more than the Cougars got against Fortuno.

Fortuno (3-1) threw a 2 hit complete game shutout with 5 K's and no walks to pick up his 3rd win on the season.

The lone runs came in the top of the 6th inning with 2 outs. Eric Rivera started the 2 out rally with a single up the middle. Peter Moforis came up and hustled out a routine chopper to 1st which the 1st baseman bobbled and Moforis was able to reach safely  on the error.  Mark Vientos came up and battled to reach 1st with his 2nd walk on the evening to load the bases. Hunter Platts came up with the bases loaded and 2 outs, and on a 3-1 count Platts delivered the crucial hit up the middle to score both Rivera and Moforis to make the score 2-0. That would be all the Falcons needed as Fortuno would take care of the rest.

The Falcons (9-2, 5-0) will be back at home against McArthur in a District contest on Wednesday, March 18th at 6:30 pm.

The night belonged to Dylan O'Connell in a 17-0 district win against his old team, the Everglades Gators.

O'Connell stood out on the hill and at the plate going 3-4 with being just a triple shy of the cycle. He had 3 RBI's on the evening including a long homerun to right field to cap a 9 run 3rd inning. O'Connell started the game on the hill and struck out 5 of the first 6 outs of the game. He ended his night giving up 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1 in 4 innings pitched. Steve Gonzalez came in to pitch the 5th and struck out 2 in the final frame.

The Falcon offense came to life with 10 hits and 10 walks on the evening. Leading the way with O'Connell's performance were Peter Moforis, 2-2 with 3 RBI's and 2 walks and Eric Rivera, 1-2 with 2 RBI's and a walk.

The Falcons (8-2, 5-0) will take on Killian from Dade County at Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, March 14th at 7pm.

Falcons Hold On To Beat Bobcats

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 7, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Falcons (7-2, 4-0) held on to win on the road against their rival, West Broward, to take sole possession of first place in the District.

The Falcons took an early 6-0 after 2 innings and looked like they were going to make it an early day. Ricky Presno led the game off with a hard hit single to right field and Eric Rivera followed that up with a single of his own. Peter Moforis made it 3 hits in a row and got the games first RBI. Mark Vientos put another run across the plate with the 4th single in a row. With runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out, Arrison Perez laid down a bunt that was mishandled and thrown away which enabled Vientos to score the 3rd run of the inning.

Ricky Presno got the 2nd inning going with 1 out when he reached by a HBP. Rivera singled and Moforis also reached by a HBP to load the bases. Vientos drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 4-0. Hunter Platts then came up and hit a double down the left field line to drive in 2 runs to make the score 6-0.

Gentry Fortuno (2-1) struck out 4 of the first 6 batters he faced but things quickly changed in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Fortuno struck out the first batter of the inning, but the ball got away from the catcher and the rally had begun. The next hitter, Chayce Hay-Eldon,  singled and with 1 out the bases were loaded. The 1st baseman, Dalton Brockman, came up and delivered a 2 RBI single to cut the lead to 6-2. The next hitter was the cleanup hitter, Samyr Santos, who grounded to shortstop for the 2nd out of the inning but also drove the 3rd run across the plate to make the score 6-3.

The score stayed that way until the Falcons struck again with a run in the 5th inning. With 1 out, Vientos collected his 2nd hit of the day and stole 2nd base. Arrison Perez came up and drove Vientos in with his 2nd hit of the game to make the score 7-3. Perez stole 2nd base but was stranded as the Falcons could not push another run across.

The Bobcats got 1 run in the 5th and 1 in the 6th inning to make the score 7-5 but could not come any closer than that.

Gentry Fortuno (2-1) pitched a complete game, giving up 3 earned runs while striking out 10 and walking none.

Arrison Perez went 3-4, 1 RBI and 1 SB

Mark Vientos  went 2-3, 2 RBI's, 2 Runs, and 1 SB

Eric Rivera went 2-4, 2 runs

Hunter Platts went 1-3, 2 RBI's

Tha Falcons (7-2,4-0) will take to the road again on Tuesday, March 10th when they travel to Everglades H.S. for a 6:30 pm District game.
