Rockets vs. Colorado Styxx ( Play by Play)

Rockets Take 2nd Place at
OGSA AFA National Qualifier

The competition arrived early Saturday morning only to wait till the rain past through and the fields to dry out. But they would have to wait long to get started on the new state of the art softball fields at the new OGSA fields located off Lone Elm. With a few hours of delay the Rockets took the field 12:28 pm to shut out the Blue Springs Lightning White in a 8-0 victory. The 4:00 pool game got started at 5:18 against the Flash. Playing strong defense the Flash stopped the Rocket Offense with 6 hits but only allowing 2 runs, but the Rockets defense kept the Flash from scoring with some very awesome playmakers at second base. With most of the Flash hits traveling toward the right side Kayla M. stayed busy and covered a lot of ground to shut the Flash offense down and didn't allow a single run making the final score Rockets 2 Flash 0. The competition got better as the day got longer. The next game against the HotStix and well respected 1st year 12U team held the Rockets with a 2 run lead until the 3rd inning with two runners onbase Laura V. hit a in park homerun to make it 4 - 2. Placing 1st in the pool the Rockets would face Hotstix again in the 1st game of the bracket that would go into extra innings for a tie breaker that would result in another Rockets 9-4 win. The Rockets faced the Colorado Styxx who had traveled out of the Denver area to try their bats for the National Qualifier. The game remain scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Styxx broke lose with their bats and put 4 runs onto the board. The Rockets struggled with their bats but could only manage to get 1 run across the plate early in the 5th inning.

Rockets Take 2nd Place at Basehor Open

September 12, 2004

The all new Rockets took the field this past weekend at Basehor Field of Dreams for the first time. For most of them it was the first experience of a Rocket's winning attitude that the 4 Rocket veterans have known since 10U. Going 5 wins and only 1 loss was a " super great feeling" said one of the new rookie's but as the Coach said just you wait! " This team is just getting started". Coach Ballard Patterson, David Vickers and Jerry Sirmans, knew basehor animation

that it took more than just a winning attitude but it was a good start. For only 3 weeks before the tournament they had been practicing their defense and offensive strategies and trying to learn where each player strengths were. "With everyone hitting so very well the line up was a breeze to put together", recalled Coach David. The Rockets scored over 77 runs in their first of 6 games of play batting a team average of 420. "Everyone was getting on base and hitting well" Coach Ballard claimed. The defense was ready to step into action when needed but the pitchers simply would not allow the opposing team batters onbase! Two Rocket's pitchers, Kaley P. and Cassie P. pitched no-hitters. Rocket's pitchers combined with a awesome Rockets defense only allowed 19 runs for the weekend.

Next weekend the Rockets play in a AFA Qualifier at the new OGSA softball fields located off Lone Elm in Olathe. If you would like to learn more about the Rockets and a position for your daughter please contact either Head Coach: Ballard Patterson or Team Manager: David Vickers

August 29, 2004

Rockets are preparing for their first tournament with Sunday practices. September marks the first set of tournaments for the fall beginning just after Labor Day.

The 2004-2005 Rockets12U has truly had a tremendous turnout for the 2005 team tryouts. Girls came from all over Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri for a chance to make the 2005 Rockets 12U Team. Thanks to all the girls and parents that have participated. The Coaches had the opportunity to view many great players this year. While they couldn’t pick everyone who came out for tryouts the Rocket Coaches have picked what should prove to be an awesome team for the rest of 2004 and 2005 season. With the new team selected the Rockets will begin to practice for some end of the season tournaments before we get into the holiday’s. The Rockets 12U plan to make a competitive appearance at a couple of area tournaments, then travel to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma for the annual Halloween Classic Tournament to finish this year off.

Rockets Eliminated early in the ASA Nationals

The 12U Rockets finished early in Moline, IL with a 2 -3 record as they took another loss against the Vienna Stars from Virginia. It was a close game that only allowed a total of 2 Stars runners to score but the Rockets couldn't get their bats going in the first half of the game. In the late half Rockets did start a big hitting streak against the Stars however the stars closed the gaps and didn't allow the Rockets to get onto base.

The 12U Rockets will be holding tryouts next week for the core group of 2nd year 12U team members and the 1st year 14U team members. Information can be found in the Tuesday Kansas City Star and the web site http://www.kcfastpitch.net/ Overall the Kansas City competitive team proved to be the best that the Kansas City Metro had to offer with a total of 86 wins and only 26 losses. The Rockets are the 2004 Memorial Day Champions, 2004 Kansas City Metro Champions and the Kansas City 4th of July Champions for ASA Tournaments.
