Cody Watson grew up playing hockey in SAYHA. He then moved on to play for the Flyers Jr. B (NORPAC) team for four years then ended his Jr career with a half of a year with the Braves. After graduating from Shadle Park HS he joined the Army and was deployed to Iraq in 2009 as a member of Unit C/38 Long Range Surveillance, Airborne as an E-4/Specialist. Upon returning to the States Cody was experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which was a factor leading to his suicide on March 18, 2014. Shortly after his death SAYHA memorialized Cody’s youth hockey career and military career with a plaque in the SAYHA trophy case. I, Corey Condron, agreed to a Cody Watson Annual Fund Raiser in Cody’s honor with the memorial plaque with the understanding that the funds raised with this annual event go to the SAYHA Scholarship fund to he lp under privileged kids get an opportunity to play the game of hockey.
