Former League President Passes Away

Posted by Tony Powell at Jan 18, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

We are sad to announce the passing of William "Bill" Lesert yesterday morning.  I was contacted by his daughter and given the unfortunate news.  Bill was Kelloggsville Little League President for a number of years back in the 1970's and early 80's.  He had a passion for Kelloggsville Little League and presided over what I would call our "heyday" when we as a league had anywhere between 12-16 teams in the Majors Boys Division alone. Obviously instrumental in the development of our league his dedication will be remembered fondly.

The funeral for Bill will be held this Friday at the Archer/Hampel/Kubiak Funeral Home in Wayland, Michigan.  It is being requested that anyone wishing to donate in honor and memory of Bill do so by donating to Kelloggsville Little League.  We here at KLL are grateful and humbled that Bill chose to remember us in his last days.  There will be an announcement in the Grand Rapids Press on Tuesday the 20th.

This season, all Kelloggsville Little League uniforms will carry a token of appreciation to Bill for his service to our league.  A small but very visible WL will adorn the jersey of each player in our league.  Rest in Peace Bill, you will be missed.

League Changes

Posted by Tony Powell at Jan 6, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
There are a few changes I would like to let everyone know about regarding the 2009 season, and right now they consist simply of new board members. Starting in January of 2009, Jim Kies now carries the title of League VP.  All VP'S of each division, whether it be baseball or softball, now report directly to Jim.  Michelle Martin has assumed TWO league positions, one of League Secretary and the other as Player Agent for 2009.  Michelle is new to the board but has already proven herself an invaluable asset to the league. Leo Flanigan will resume his duties as Umpire in Chief and Rob Vanderhart will become the new Safety Officer.  I do expect that Rob and Leo will work together with the influx of new umpires we recruited last season.  Donna McCauley continues in her position of Treasurer and has also given this league a boost with the Poker fundraisers she has scheduled and worked.  Without this tireless effort we would not function as a league.  We all owe Donna a huge debt of sheer gratitude for what she has been able to accomplish. Dave Tanis is the VP of Girls Softball, having served in this capacity last season he looks to control even more of the Softball division.  All Softball related questions and issues should go to Dave first.  His knowledge and dedication is second to none and his advice is greatly appreciated.  Any questions regarding the upcoming seasons should be directed to a board member and if they do not know the answer, they will get one for you!!!

Welcome Back Leo

Posted by Tony Powell at Jan 6, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
We would like to welcome Leo Flanigan back to Kelloggsville LL where he will resume his duties as Umpire in Chief.  As many of you know, Leo was sidelined with some health issues last season but has decided to pick up where he left off and once again manage our umpire crew.  We here at Kelloggsville Little League welcome Leo back and look forward to having his input and services throughout the 2009 Baseball/Softball season.
