District 15 Big League Baseball History
LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL INC.
DISTRICT 15, NEW JERSEY
HISTORY OF BIG LEAGUE BASEBALL
District 15 had its first Big League Baseball League in 1968. It was the first Big League in New Jersey. The District hosted the First Division Tournament at the Glassboro Little League Senior League Field and was defeated by the District 2, Delaware for the right to go to the First Eastern Region Big League Baseball tournament at New Rochelle, New York.
Big League Baseball New Jersey State tournaments were held in Glassboro 1970, 1972 and 1974 at the Glassboro State College. Division Big League Tournaments were held at the Glassboro State College in 1971 through 1976. District 15 held its first Eastern Regional Tournament in 1969 at the Washington Township Little League Senior Field with a team from New York State going to the World Series.
Other Big League Regional was held at the Glassboro State College from 1971 to 1976. In the 1976 Regional Tournament, the Tournament was in its Championship Game and was served with a Court Injunction. The game was stopped and the Injunction was dismissed the next day and the game was completed. A full account of this Injunction appears in Record Book # 9 1976.
In 1978 and 1979 the District suspended the Big League District Play because there was a lack of support from the local leagues to help run the League. Play was resumed in 1980 and continued for the next 11 years. The Program was suspended in 1992 and has not resumed since.
