Pearland Oilers Varsity survives Clear Brook rally, escapes with 5-4 victory
Clear Brook was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against Pearland Oilers Varsity on Friday, as Clear Brook fell 5-4 at Clear Brook after falling behind by three runs in the fifth inning.
Clear Brook scored two runs in the sixth on a two-run single by G Hunt. Despite its efforts, Clear Brook couldn't get over the hump.
Seth Mikeska racked up two RBIs on two hits for Pearland Oilers Varsity. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the fifth inning.
Brendan Owens recorded the win for Pearland Oilers Varsity. He allowed two runs over five innings. Owens struck out two, walked one and gave up three hits.
B Hill couldn't get it done on the hill for Clear Brook, taking a loss. He lasted just four innings, walked six, struck out six, and allowed three runs.
Pearland Oilers Varsity closer Nick Landrum put away the final two outs to record the save.
In the bottom of the first, Clear Brook grabbed the early lead, 2-0. A single by T Mackey started the inning off. Clear Brook then tacked on more runs when Mackey scored on an RBI double by G Hunt.
Pearland Oilers Varsity never trailed after scoring two runs in the fourth on an RBI double by Mikeska and an RBI single by Cody Williams.
Pearland Oilers Varsity increased its lead with two runs in the fifth. Jacob Almendarez's single got things going, scoring Eddie Redou. That was followed up by Mikeska's single, bringing home Jacob Almendarez.
