North Reading Little League is pleased to announce that the seventh annual NRLL/Tim Chaloux 12-Year-Old Appreciation Game will take place on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, at Benevento Memorial Park.

NRLL introduced the event in 2013 as a way to thank its 12-year-old players as they complete their small diamond careers and prepare to move on to the big diamond. It is also a day to honor the memory of Tim Chaloux, a former NRLL standout who was a senior at the Pingree School when he tragically died seven years ago.

The day has become one of the most highly anticipated and memorable on the NRLL calendar, with all of the league’s 12-year-olds invited to participate.

Activities start at 10:30 a.m. with registration and the opportunity for players and their families to have a game of catch on the Benevento fields. That will be followed by team warm-ups, player introductions, dedications, and a six-inning game starting at 12 noon. There is a cookout at the game’s conclusion, and Stan Chaloux (Tim’s father) will present the Tim Chaloux Spirit Award to the player who best exhibits the hustle, passion, and effort that defined Tim on the field.

“This day has come to mean so much to everyone involved with North Reading Little League,” said NRLL president Eddie Madden. “It’s a great atmosphere, especially for the kids, who get together one final time to play on the small diamond with their friends. Just as important, it celebrates Tim’s memory at the place he loved the most, the ball field.

“For those reasons, of all the traditions we have in NRLL, the Chaloux Game may be the most important.”

The NRLL/Chaloux Game caps a big weekend at Benevento Park. On Friday, June 14, NRLL will hold Field Day for players in the Tee-Ball, Instructional, and Farm divisions, followed by the Farm League title game under the lights. On Saturday, June 15, the Majors and Minors championship games will take place.
