Peter Porter Golf Outing
Peter Porter was a beloved social studies teacher, history club advisor and golf coach for over 12 years at MTHS. Mr. Porter truly believed that real learning occurs when students are able to see, hear and taste all that they have read about in World History and AP European classes. A true advocate for and a true inspiration to all of his students, Mr. Porter encouraged his students to take an active role in their learning. He ran several cultural trips per year to New York City, specifically to The Frick Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Lincoln Center. During the summer, he continued these cultural experiences as he guided student groups all across Europe. He will long be remembered and appreciated for these and his many other fine qualities.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps (Desert Storm and Desert Shield), a graduate of and a professor at Seton Hall University, Mr. Porter is survived by his wife, Val; his daughters, Meg and Kathleen; his father, Peter Porter Sr.; and his brother, Matthew.
Mr. Porter envisioned establishing a scholarship specifically for an AP History student who exemplifies exuberance and profound interest in the area of Advanced Placement History. Funds raised from this outing will help support a graduating senior who best exemplifies Mr. Porter’s ideals, along with the MTHS Golf Team.
