Semifinals Set For Champions Cup
It was a tremendous day for the EDSL and it’s flagship event, the 2016 $5000 Tournament of Champions Cup. The two site event was held on Father’s Day and plenty of people came out to support their favorite teams in the beautiful weather. With most of the divisions represented and even a team from outside of the EDSL competing this year’s tournament was better than ever. The competition was high class and we look forward to seeing the same in the semifinals and finals this Sunday.
Yonkers Ukranians, of the Open Division, were able to advance through Penalty Kicks, over La Maquina of the Port Chester Division 4-3 and then cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Liga de Yonkers team Alianza.
Honduras, last year’s State Cup Finalists, were able to advance with a 4-3 victory over Yorktown (open) and cruised to a
6-0 victory over the Utica based Krajisnik.
Two Port Chester Division teams round out the Semifinal round. Westchester and C.A. Tumi will represent their division with pride in the final four. Westchester required penalty kicks to claim an opening round victory over El Salvador (LDY) and a 6-0 win over Cabo Verde (Open) in the second round. C. A. Tumi defeated Sport Peru (LDY) 3-0 in the opening round, an outlasted Ossining Portuguese (Open) on penalty kicks in the second round.
Congratulations to all teams that participated in this event and good luck to Yonkers Ukranians (Open), Honduras (LDY), Westchester (PC) and C.A. Tumi (PC) in your quest for the Cup!
