Seasons

News and Announcements

During the past few weeks, the Coronavirus has spread into our lives, raising concern for all of us. Current events are unsettling as the outcome feels uncertain not just for baseball — but also for what truly matters most—our health and safety, and the health and safety of those we care about. JLS does not want to rush, like so many think we should, and cancel the 2020 season 5-6 weeks before it is scheduled to start. Recent, positive developments in the treatment and testing of this virus leave us hopeful that we can salvage the season.

The League has decided to cancel all further in person gatherings until such time as the City of Springfield deems it acceptable to continue them. We say the City of Springfield because we are a Springfield league that allows others to participate in it. If your community has stricter guidelines we may be able to help you work around them if they are communicated. We ask that your groups do not take an “our way or the highway” attitude. We are concerned about the safety of all involved, but need to have one set of guidelines that we will recognize.

With that being said, the league will continue to accept on-line registrations for the 6U (T-ball), 8U (Clemente), 10U (Mays) and 12U (Reese) and your mail- in payments until April 3rd. We do not want to discourage or miss any teams that wish to participate. We are hopeful that we can start our season on May 8th. We will make an offer to all teams in these age groups, in lieu of using your three no-play dates, we can delay your season start to May 15th (if you chose this you get zero no play dates) . Using this format we should be able to complete our season & playoffs close to the times we set in the pre-season. Please forward any payments to:

In Koufax and Mantle we will keep registrations open until April 20th, with a still to be determined start date. We hope the MIAA/High School will not take all the diamonds available for this group and basically leave us nowhere to play.

We need teams to register sooner rather than later; there is no excuse why forms cannot be down loaded and completed from home. If you are not sure who your coach will be, use yourself as a contact, but we need to know what you have for teams. If we do cancel our season, all money collected will be refunded.

We will keep everyone posted by way of the e-mail addresses we have on file (coaches and coordinators) our web site www.eteamz.com/jls and our Facebook page John L. Sullivan Baseball Sandlot Leagues, Inc.

Please remember, we are trying, but we cannot react until something happens……… Our motto during this time is: do the next right thing.

Thank you
The John L. Sullivan Board of Directors

The League would like to clarify our position for the meeting Thursday March 19th. We do not want anyone to attend that does not feel comfortable doing so. This is not a mandatory meeting, the second meeting never has been. If you do not wish to attend the meeting you don’t have to, but you must have your team registration form submitted electronically (e-mailed) to jlsforms@comcast.net no later than Wednesday night March 18th. If you are an organization or an independent team, your organizational form must be submitted electronically to the same e-mail address by March 18th. You must mail your payment ASAP; if we do not have your payment by March 23rd, your team will not be included on the schedule.

Please forward any payments to:

Rick Roy

Springfield, MA 01104

Traditionally, the second meeting has always been for final team payments and setting up divisions in each respective age group. If you are not in attendance your team will be placed in the division the league feels they are best suited for. If you are not attending this meeting, any pertinent information on placement should be forwarded as soon as possible to jlsforms@comcast.net. We will go over what is needed for the last meeting from your team and discuss the JLS pre-season tournaments with the coaches present. If you have questions or concerns feel free to reach out to any member of the Board of Directors and we will be happy to assist you.

As we are all aware, the rapidly changing conditions of the coronavirus (COVID-19) have lead to many closings and cancelations. The John L. Sullivan Sandlot Leagues Board of Directors has been monitoring these and have decided to react only when necessary. At this time we plan on holding all meetings and player pass sessions as scheduled and at their original locations, with the exception of Thursday, March 19th. The location for these meetings has been changed from Greenleaf Community Center to Taplin Yard Pump & Power, located at 197 Main St., Agawam, MA.

This location has a classroom area that should be able to accommodate a group of 40-50 people at a time. Each team should send only coach to this meeting. This will ensure that we have enough space for those attending. Please if you are sick send someone in your place!

If we don’t hold these meetings on the scheduled dates we will not have the necessary time to write schedules and secure fields for our regular season and playoffs. If conditions change to the point that we need to delay the start of our season we will react at that time and not before. We will keep everyone posted by way of the e-mail addresses we have on file (coaches and coordinators) our web site www.eteamz.com/jls/ and our Facebook page John L. Sullivan Baseball Sandlot Leagues, Inc.

Please notify your parents and players that they can obtain updated information on our web site and Facebook page.

Thank you
The John L. Sullivan Board of Directors
