Challenger Little League

For more than thirty years, Manchester Little League has run a program for physically and developmentally “challenged” youngsters. The Challenger Division is designed to allow such boys and girls the opportunity to participate in non-competitive baseball games with similar teams from surrounding communities.

The Challenger experience has proven to be most rewarding for players, care-givers, coaches, administrators and regular Little Leaguers alike. Scores are not kept and there are no balls, strikes or outs. Every youngster gets on base and scores every inning; the emphasis being on fun and safety. At the same time the players, like all Little Leaguers, are exposed to the principles of sportsmanship, teamwork and positive socialization.

Participation in the Challenger program is free and available to youngsters between the age of 5 and graduation from high school. Uniforms are provided and there are no equipment requirements. Volunteer “buddies”, along with parents, siblings and coaches are on the field with the players for safety. The balls and bats used are matched to the skill level of the player, some of whom may be wheelchair bound or have other mobility restrictions.

Challenger games are typically played on Sunday afternoons at Northwest Park, during the regular Little League season. If you have, or know of, a youngster who might benefit from a program designed especially for those who might not otherwise consider Little League participation, please contact:
