With new bat standards for baseball set to take effect in 2018, Little League wants to share some gift giving advice with family and friends.

If a new bat is on your baseball player’s wish list, there are some important things you may want to think about before making your purchase this year. Beginning on January 1, 2018, Little League will begin using a new standard established by USA Baseball, and the current 1.15 Bat Performance Factor will no longer be the standard for Little League-approved baseball bats. Baseball bats with the new USA Baseball Standard won’t be commercially available until late 2017, for use in 2018, so, while your Little Leaguer’s current Little League-approved baseball bat will be good through next season, he or she won’t be allowed to use it in 2018.

With the Little League® International Board of Directors formally adopting USA Baseball’s new standard for bat performance testing, Little League International fully supports this program. For more than seventy-five years, Little League has used improvements in science, engineering, and technology to take the sport of baseball to higher levels. By utilizing the most current advancements available, manufacturers can now develop bats with a wood-like performance, which is important for the long-term success of the game. Developed by a USA Baseball committee of scientific experts, Little League Baseball® has decided to adopt the new bat standard for mandated use effective January 1, 2018. All national members of USA Baseball, including Little League, are encouraged to adopt this new standard. Little League-approved bats can be used through December 31, 2017, and our current bat regulations will be in effect until then. That includes the moratorium prohibiting the use of all 2 ¼ inch barrel baseball bats constructed with composite material in the barrel, unless approved. Visit LittleLeague.org for detailed information. Little League looks forward to working with USA Baseball, and will begin educating our local leagues, and the parents of our 2.1 million baseball players, preparing them for the important change coming in 2018.

Congratulations to the boys and girl in Blue! The Royals capped off a fantastic season last night with an impressive 7-1 victory over the Poway National Majors Pirates to bring the Majors City Championship back to Poway American. The Royals showed why they were the team to beat all season with solid pitching, strong defense, and timely hitting. Way to finish the season!

Congratulations to the Minor B Angels, your 2016 City Champions! Following their Minor B playoff championship last Friday, the Angels dug deep to beat the Poway National Pirates who had only lost one game en route to their own regular season and league playoff championship. The game was tight all the way to the end, demonstrating what some called the greatest pitching ever seen in Minor B. Down 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th, the Angels scored 2 runs to go ahead and they closed it out 1-2-3 in the top of the 6th. Well done Angels! Way to represent Poway American Little League.
