The Johnstown Grays scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 5-4 win over Assure Home Equity in the season opener.

Kerry Pfeil (1-0) picked up the win in relief of Jason Merriman.

Assure opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Brent Matish drew a walk to lead off the inning. He later scored from third on a wild pitch.

Assure added to the lead in the third. Andy Chopp led off the inning with a walk and stole second. He advanced to third on a fielder's choice and scored on Nate Novotny's single to make it 2-0.

The Grays took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Unger led off with an infield single. Jason Wos executed the hit and run with a single to right field to put runnners on the corners. Pete Vuckovich singled home Unger to make it 2-1. Steve Siembak's fielder's choice moved Wos to second and Vuckovich to third. Adam Miscik doubled off the left-center wall with two outs to give the Grays a 3-2 lead.

Assure tied the game in the top of the fifth. Chris McGarvey singled to lead off the inning. Eric Macha grounded to third and McGarvey was forced at second for the first out. Nate Novotny singled to center and Ryan Unger's throw to third to nail Macha sailed wide allowing Macha to score to tie the game.

Assure took the lead in the sixth. John Stanek led off with a walk and stole second. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch to give Assure a 4-3 lead.

Matt Perry's one out bunt single got the Grays going in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Miscik followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Matt Eppley drew an intentional walk to load the bases. Assure's starter Mike Polinsky struck out Ryan Unger for the second out. Jason Wos hit a ground ball to second baseman John Stanek, but Stanek's throw to first sailed wide allowing Perry and Ryan Miscik to score to give the Grays a 5-4 victory.

The Grays will take on Assure in Game 2 of the series Wednesday at the Point Stadium. Game time is 5:30. Kip Watkins (NR) will get the start on the mound.
