Freshman B:
This week the Huskies Freshman B team faced St. Ignatius at home and gave a good performance. The Huskies jumped into the lead in the first half with 15 minutes into the game. St. Ignatius answered back with 2 of their own goals before finishing the half. In the second half St. Ignatius added two more in the back of the net to make the lead 4-1. This did not stop the Huskies from pressuring their opponents. With 5 minutes left in the game, the Huskies found the back of the net once again to finish the game in a 4-2 loss.
On the Thursday the Huskies travelled to Nile West and were determined to get back on the winning streak. That is exactly what happened as the Huskies added a goal in the first half and then added 3 more goals in the second half. The Huskies won the game with the score of 4-0 which brings them to back on a positive note with their record of 3 wins and 2 losses
The Huskies will face New Trier this Friday.
Freshman A: 2-1-1
The team continues to learn to play together—as a team—and the game results show the progress. After losing 5-1 last week to Maine West (Sam Dull scored the lone goal, unassisted), the team resolved to focus and play with more discipline the next day against Ridgewood. Our determination resulted in a 6-0 win. Goals were scored by Mike Charnota (1), Okker Verhagen-Metman (2), Sam Dull (1), Graham Lehman (1) and Gianluca LoCasto (1). Assisting on the goals were Okker, Gianluca, Dan Gryzlo and Noe Espinoza.
Goalkeeper Liam Sorenson had a great save on a Ridgewood breakaway, 1 v 1. Our next opponent was New Trier and, knowing they have a quality program, we focused as a team on quick attacking and, when losing the ball, immediate pressure. We dominated and scored early (goal from Okker Verhagen-Metman) and New Trier responded by becoming more physical and attacking 1 v 1 against our defense with through balls, and scored two goals. Despite heavy pressure, our defensive players—Seth Primack, Dan Gryzlo, Jordan Bruce, Pat Callahan, Graham Lehman and Asher Einhorn, continued to play with discipline, contributing to the attack with full field overlaps and great back support. We dominated the last 10 minutes of the game with multiple shots on goal and scored the tying goal in the last minute—a shot on goal off the post, followed by a second shot off the post and finally finished one touch by Noe Espinoza. Keepers Andrew Galo and Liam Sorenson each allowed one goal. Andrew had 3 saves and Liam had 4, including a penalty shot. The team is fired up for our two games next week against Hinsdale South and Prospect (final game of the Maine West tournament).
Sophomores:
The sophomore team played St. Ignatius on Monday. The team took another tough loss putting the team at 1-2 for the season. We are still working on moving the ball at a faster pace to create opportunities and finishing when we have a shot. Our next game is Friday, September 04, 2009 vs. Whitney Young at 5:30 on Lake.
Reserves:
Reserves: We had a great week of practice and worked on our ball skills and shooting. We have a game Wednesday 9/9 at Hindsdale South at 6:30, the time was switched so just a heads up if you plan on coming, we also have big tournament next weekend at St. Charles North.
Varsity:
The varsity team remains undefeated and won the Leyden Challenge Cup this past weekend (3-0-1.) The Huskies are starting to gel as a “pack” with leader ship from senior Captain Jordan Golz and Junior Captain Sam Euler. Big Dogs this past week were Chimela “Chim-Chim” Enogwe with his immediate pressure on the ball assisting Jordan Golz for a game winner, Alex “no nickname yet” Gebert has been tremendous in the back acting calm under pressure, Josh “leave it on the field” Levy lives up to his nickname…nothing to do tonight come watch us take on the Whitney Young Dolphins (4-0) today in the stadium at 530pm.
On another note, I was asked if Rambo was on my team…common mistake…we get it all the time…no that’s Kelly Foran with his shirt off and the arm band on his bicep is for a bruise he suffered when his sister punched him. Sorry Rambo fans…
