Our U12G Rebels opened the season in the cold wet rain at White Plains HS to take on the White Plains Ladybugs. The Rebels started off slow absorbing the home team pressing attack and were caught off guard by the Ladybugs’ speed up top. Some disorganization in the back led to a number of early chances for the opponents who capitalized at the 10 minute mark to put the Rebs in a 1 -0 hole. This woke up the Rebels and Captain Nicole Shapiro stepped up to drill a free kick from 25 yds out that found the net after deflecting off a defender just in front of the helpless keeper. Just before the half Caitlin Finucane beat the keeper but the sprawling net minder scrambled back to pull the ball back from what looked to be a sure goal. However she did not control the ball and strikers Finucane and Geary both were quick to pounce on the loose ball with Caitlin getting credit for the tally. A Half time adjustment saw the Rebs put Erin Dempsey in the back to use her experience and speed to halt the Ladybug attack and the second half was dominated by the Rebels. Morgan Creeden slid the ball accross to Megan Geary who put the Rebs up 3 – 1. Caroline Schrag showed impressive speed taking the ball from our own half and outrunning the entire Ladybug team and coolly finished her breakaway in the bottom left corner of the net. The Ladybugs pulled one back on an impressive header that managed to get past keeper Amanda Masterson who played an impressive second half in the net. The scoring was rounded out with Megan Geary returning the favor to Morgan Creeden by sliding one accross to to find the left foot of Creeden that nearly ripped a hole in the net! Morgan Vanledtje distributed many fine balls from Center Back position in her first game as a Rebel. Great Start Rebs…. White Plains Ladybugs 2 – 5 Emerald Elite Rebels
As many will recall last year’s tailgate at West Point was a great success despite a record setting snowfall and wide spread power outage. Jenn Pearman has once again arranged for a tailgate for Emerald Elite at West Point during Army’s soccer Match at West Point on 4/21 at 1PM. An invite will be going out through Team Pages so please reply asap to the Attendance log when you receive the invite. More details to follow. For those who did not come last year I can assure you this is a good time. For those who did attend feel free to post a comment!
The Local EEFC Cornwall Teams Gear up for the Spring with the start of Practices at Maranatha to begin Tuesday at 5:30 PM. The Rebels are anxious to see how they measure up to the Westchester Competition. The Ulls and U12s are both coming off Division Wining seasons and have combined to become one formidable squad. With the additions of Morgan Vanledtje, Kristen Boerke, and Emily Andriello the Rebs are poised to do put EEFC “on the map”. The U13s have had an active Winter and will come into the Spring well prepared.
EEFC has entered 7 teams into the WYSL Schedule for the Spring 2012 Season.
